Picayune, MS (November 18, 2020) – On Tuesday morning, November 17, a teen was injured in a pedestrian accident in Picayune.
According to the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department, a vehicle was driving on Jackson Landing Road when it struck a 17-year-old teenager walking in the area. The male was walking alongside the road to meet a friend who was waiting at their bus stop. The friend went looking for him and found him in a ditch after he was struck.
Paramedics and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene of the accident. The teen was airlifted to the hospital and, according to loved ones, he has been receiving treatment for internal injuries and a head injury.
The roadway was blocked around the area of the New Life Baptist Church.
Police have since received surveillance videos of the area and believe that they know what the SUV looks like that struck the teen. However, they are still looking for a responsible driver.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the collision continues.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.
