Tupelo, MS (November 8, 2020) – Around 1 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, November 3, an employee was killed in a workplace accident in Tupelo. They have since been identified.
Police confirmed that the accident occurred at the Cooper Tire facility on South Green Street in Tupelo. A 55-year-old man identified as Randy Roberts was welding a pipe. The pipe, which was pressurized, suddenly exploded and struck the victim in the chest. He fell from the ladder he was working on.
Roberts was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased due to extensive injuries.
OSHA and police are working on their investigation into the circumstances of the accident at this time.
