Southaven, MS (October 20, 2020) – Around 8:30 p.m. on Monday night, October 19, a passenger was killed in a fatal DUI crash in Southaven.
Southaven Police confirmed that the accident took place in the northbound lanes of I-55 around the area of Star Landing Road. There, they found that a Ford F-250 and a Hyundai Elantra were involved in a collision. The Hyundai was allegedly struck in the rear end by the Ford truck.
The front-seat passenger of the Hyundai, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the same vehicle was seriously injured and hospitalized. There were also two children in the vehicle who were taken to the hospital and are expected to recover.
The driver of the Ford pickup truck was identified as James Phillip Emerson II, who was charged with DUI death following the accident.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
