Aberdeen, MS (September 22, 2020) – In the early morning hours of Monday, September 21, a man was killed in a fatal pedestrian crash in Aberdeen.
Monroe County officials were dispatched to the scene of the accident, which took place when the pedestrian was suddenly struck by an 18-wheeler while he was walking on MS-25 near the intersection of Highway 382.
The pedestrian, who has since been identified as 72-year-old E.C. Morris, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident due to internal injuries. Police said he was almost two miles away from his home and they are not sure why he was walking in that area so early in the morning.
The driver of the 18-wheeler, who has not yet been identified, remained at the scene to cooperate with police and was not injured.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol continues its investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
Pedestrian Accidents in Mississippi
Though pedestrian accidents do not happen as commonly as other types of accidents in the state of Mississippi, they are incredibly catastrophic when they do occur. In 2011 alone, it was determined that approximately 47 people were killed in pedestrian accidents in the state of Mississippi due to the negligence of others. Pedestrians have no protection from harm, which means that they are more likely to lose their lives in accidents than any other party on our roads. Hundreds of families face these losses every year and might wonder where they can turn during these difficult times, which is why families should always have a knowledgeable legal advocate by their side.
