Nettleton, MS (September 16, 2020) – Around 8:39 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, a man was killed in a fatal motorcycle crash on a highway in Nettleton.
According to Monroe County officials, the accident took place on US-278 around the area of Buchanan Road when a motorcycle and a pickup truck collided. The motorcycle, identified as a Harley Davidson, was being operated by 45-year-old Mark Rakestraw. He was traveling north on his motorcycle when he collided with a pickup truck for reasons that are not yet known.
Rakestraw was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured and remained at the scene to cooperate with the police.
The roadway was blocked in the area of the accident for an extended period of time.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol continues its investigation into the collision.
