Tupelo, MS - Mary Gipson Identified in Fatal Truck Accident on I-22 at Mantachie & Mooreville

Tupelo, MS (August 29, 2021) – Deputies with the Lee County Sheriff's Office say that a 71-year-old Mississippi woman died after an 18-wheeler accident occurred on the interstate Friday afternoon, August 27.

Lee County Coroner Carolyn Green said that the woman, identified as Mary Gipson from Smithville, was driving her vehicle on Interstate 22 in North Mississippi when the incident occurred. The wreck happened when an 18-wheeler and Gipson’s car crashed shortly after 12:30 pm. in the westbound lanes, close to the Mantachie/Mooreville exit.

Despite life-saving measures performed by EMS, Gipson was pronounced deceased at the scene. It's unclear if any other victims were injured in the collision.

Troopers with the Mississippi Highway Patrol, in conjunction with the LCSO, are investigating the crash. They have not released further details at this time.
