Coldwater, MS (July 2, 2021) – On Sunday, a child was killed in a workshop fire that took place near Arkabutla Lake in Coldwater.
According to Tate County deputies, the incident happened in a workshop building in a home near Arkabutla Lake. A 13-year-old boy and another boy were playing in the workshop building when it caught on fire due to reasons that are not yet known. Other family members were nearby when the fire started.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene. The 13-year-old boy was badly burned in the fire and was rushed to a burn unit in Little Rock, Arkansas. He later succumbed to his injuries. The other boy was not injured in the accident.
The area was blocked for some time as fire crews and police got the fire under control.
Police continue their investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
