Meridian, MS (July 4, 2021) – At 3:34 p.m. on the afternoon of Friday, July 2, a car accident with injuries occurred in Meridian.
According to the Mississippi Department of Transportation, the accident happened in the eastbound lanes of I-20 around the area of 49th Avenue. Lauderdale County officials confirmed that two or more vehicles were traveling in the area when they collided with each other due to reasons that are not yet known. The vehicles involved in the crash were badly damaged.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those with injuries. One or more victims were hospitalized with injuries, though their conditions are not yet known.
The roadway was blocked in several lanes until police were able to clear the scene. This led to delays in the area.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues at this time.
