Oxford, MS (October 8, 2021) – At 5:55 p.m. on the evening of Wednesday, October 6, a woman was killed in a fatal collision in Oxford.
According to Oxford Police, the accident happened in the westbound lanes of MS-7. At the time, 83-year-old Brenda Barfield was driving her Saturn 300 headed northbound when her vehicle collided with a southbound Acura MDX. The driver of the Acura was identified as 37-year-old Courtney Griffin. The vehicles involved in the accident were extensively damaged as a result.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. Barfield had to be extricated from her vehicle by fire crews. She was pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. The other driver was not hurt.
Due to the severity of the accident, the roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time. Police quickly worked to clear the scene.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
