Meridian, MS (September 6, 2021) – A young child has lost their life following a motor vehicle accident in the Marion area on Saturday. On September 4, emergency crews were notified that their assistance was needed on-site at a crash on Old Country Club Road.

Reports from the Meridian Police Department show that an SUV driven by a 17-year-old T-boned a second vehicle on Old Country Club Road at the intersection of Highway 39.

The impact of the crash caused the car to roll over several times. A 5-year-old inside the car was fatally injured. Authorities arrived at the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. A second child inside the car was airlifted to a local hospital in critical condition. The driver of the car, identified as the children’s mother, was transported to a hospital in Meridian for care.

At this time, the circumstances surrounding the accident are under investigation.
