Hattiesburg, MS (February 4, 2022) – Injuries were reported in an 18-wheeler collision that happened on a major Hattiesburg highway on Friday afternoon, February 4.
Hattiesburg Police confirmed that the accident happened at 6400 US-49 around 2 p.m. A Malibu was headed south on the highway in the area when it was suddenly struck by a pickup truck that was crossing over the highway. The Malibu went into the other lane of traffic, where it was struck by an 18-wheeler. Several wheels on the tractor-trailer became detached and debris was left all over the highway.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The driver of the Malibu, who has not yet been identified, was the only person injured in the accident. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Due to the severity of the collision, the roadway was blocked in the area until approximately 5:05 p.m.
No further details have been released but the investigation continues. Police will update as more information about the accident becomes available.
