Tremont, MS (January 6, 2022) – On Wednesday afternoon, January 5, a woman was killed in a fatal truck accident on a highway in Tremont.
Mississippi Highway Patrol officials confirmed that the collision happened in the afternoon hours on I-22. A semi-truck and a passenger vehicle were traveling eastbound at the time of the crash. Though police have not yet released all information leading to the accident, they confirmed that the two vehicles were traveling in the same direction when they collided. The passenger vehicle sustained severe damages.
Paramedics and numerous other responders, including Tremont fire crews, were called to the scene to help. The driver of the passenger vehicle, identified as a 76-year-old woman from Hamilton, Alabama, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck, identified as a 25-year-old man from California, was not hurt but remained at the scene.
The roadway was blocked in several eastbound lanes of traffic for some time following the collision.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues. Police will update with more information as it becomes available.
