Hattiesburg, MS – Five-Year-Old Killed in Accident on US 98 near Cross Creek Pkwy

Hattiesburg, MS (July 22, 2022) – Police in Hattiesburg arrested a man after a fatal DUI crash that took the life of a five-year-old on July 20. Authorities said the wreck occurred on eastbound US 98 near Cross Creek Parkway at approximately 9:00 p.m. Wednesday. 

Police report that Union resident Marty Leach, age 30, was traveling in his 2002 Dodge Ram pickup truck when he struck the rear end of a Kia Soul. This caused a chain-reaction crash that involved five vehicles. 

Police reported that two adults and the five-year-old child inside the Kia Soul were transported to a local hospital. The child passed away a short time after arriving. 

Leach was arrested for DUI and charged with DUI-causing death. He was sent to the Forrest County Jail. Police continue to investigate the collision.
