Vicksburg, MS (July 04, 2022) – A fire was deliberately started at a home in Vicksburg with a resident still inside on Monday, July 4th.
At about 12”35 p.m., the Vicksburg Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire in the 200th block of Second Avenue. Dispatch reported that an elderly resident was still inside the home.
Battalion 1, Ladder 14 Ladder 3, Engine 6 Rescue, and Fire Medic 30 were all requested at the scene, as well as units from the Vicksburg Police Department.
Fire crews were able to extinguish the flames without too much damage to the home. Asbestos siding helped to slow the spread of the flames.
The elderly resident sustained non-critical injuries during the incident.
A suspicious person was seen leaving the scene.
The fire is under investigation by the local fire investigator.
