Pocahontas, MS (March 29, 2022) – Around 9:30 p.m. on the night of Monday, March 28, a rollover collision took place on a major highway in Pocahontas. 

According to Pocahontas officials, the accident happened on US-49. Police confirmed that a Ford SUV was traveling in the area when the driver ran a stop sign in the area and hit train tracks. This caused the vehicle to forcefully flip over onto its side, which led to extensive damage. 

Several local responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. All three passengers inside the SUV, who have not yet been identified, were rushed to a local hospital for treatment. The parties sustained serious injuries due to the accident. 

The roadway was blocked in the area for a period of time. The railroad tracks were damaged as a result of the accident and it took about 90 minutes to clear the scene. 

No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident remains ongoing.
