Harrison County, MS – School Bus Crash Involving Tractor-Trailer on Hwy

Harrison County, MS (March 3, 2022) – Around 1 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, March 2, a school bus crash took place in Harrison County.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the accident happened on an unidentified highway while a Petal School District bus was transporting children back to school from a field trip. There were about 50 students on the bus at the time. An 18-wheeler was traveling on the highway in the area when it started to merge in front of the school bus. The driver of the bus pulled into the median to avoid the collision, causing the bus to crash. It became stuck in the median as a result.

Several responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. A total of three people were injured as a result of the accident, though their conditions are not yet known. The other students were put on a replacement bus, as the school bus had to be towed from the scene after being removed from the median.

The roadway was blocked in several lanes for a period of time as police worked to clear the scene.

No further details have been released. The Mississippi Highway Patrol continues its investigation into the accident at this time.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
