Carroll County, MS – Delta Electric Lineman Viciously Attacked by 5 Pit Bulls near Hwy 35

Carroll County, MS (December 14, 2022) – A Delta Electric lineman is currently recovering at a hospital in Jackson after he was attacked by pit bulls in Carroll County. Police report that the attack happened near Holcomb off Highway 35 North on Tuesday, December 13.

Information from investigators shows Ivan Bubba Rawles III had just got done with a service call at the home of Michael Ray Mabry. He was backing down the driveway when his vehicle was stuck. When he attempted to walk toward the house, five pit bulls ran from a nearby house and viciously attacked him.

Investigators reported Mabry came outside and shot a weapon into the air to scare the dogs away. One of the dogs was killed during the attack. Police and other responders arrived at the scene and airlifted Rawles to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

He underwent multiple hours of surgery and is expected to recover fully. The dogs’ owner, David Nicholas Smith, put the four remaining dogs down himself.

Charges are pending against Smith, who was not in compliance with the county’s pit bull ordinance.

We hope for the full recovery of the injured victim.

Mississippi Premises Liability Cases

Carroll County, MS - Delta Electric Lineman Viciously Attacked by 5 Pit Bulls near Hwy 35 Premises liability generally comes into play in personal injury cases. An unsafe or defective condition on the property of another individual that causes an injury or death is often the foundation for a premises liability case. The majority of legal claims involving personal injury and wrongful death involve negligence, and premises liability claims are no different. An injured individual, if they wish to bring a premises liability claim, has the responsibility to prove that a property owner acted negligently in maintaining the general safety of their property/aspects of their property, which directly resulted in injuries. A required point in premises liability states that if you were hurt on the property of another person, this does not specifically mean that the owner of that property was negligent.
