Macie Phifer, Maddox Miller, and Missy Wigginton

We have some exciting news to share. Mama Justice is teaming up with two Mississippi State student-athletes, women’s basketball player Macie Phifer and left-handed pitcher Maddox Miller, to help spread the word about the Macon a Difference Scholarship.

A Day in The Hump

We spent the day in Starkville on the Mississippi State campus, filming right inside Humphrey Coliseum. If you know State, you know it as The Hump. Macie and Maddox showed up ready to help students they have never even met, and that says a lot about who they are on and off the field.

“We’re just so excited to have State on board,” said Missy Wigginton, Mama Justice. “All you gotta do is apply.”

Why This Matters to Us

Not everybody can come in the ninth inning and close a game. Not everyone can shoot 35% from the three-point line. But everyone can achieve their own success, and that starts with a good education.

Missy started the Macon a Difference Foundation in 2018 in memory of her oldest son, Macon. The scholarship exists to help students who don’t have the resources to go after their dreams. These are students who have faced adversity and are working twice as hard to meet their goals. We see you, and we want to help.

What the Scholarship Offers

  • A $225,000 commitment paid out to students over five years
  • $7,500 awards each semester
  • One award per state each semester for students in Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee
  • Renewable for up to four years

The scholarship is for students attending an SEC school in their home state. That means if you’re a Mississippi student headed to State, or already wearing maroon and white, you qualify to apply.

Who Should Apply

Priority goes to students with financial need, first-generation college students, and students who have overcome adversity. To apply, you’ll need:

  • A minimum 2.5 GPA (send transcripts)
  • An essay about overcoming adversity through faith and determination
  • Community service experience
  • A letter of recommendation

Don’t Wait: Deadlines Are Coming Up

  • Spring 2027 semester: Apply by November 15, 2026
  • Fall 2027 semester: Apply by March 31, 2027
