What is the Zantac Lawsuit?

Recent studies surrounding the use of Zantac have found that there is a potential for an increased risk of developing cancer among users. This increase is associated with the findings that Zantac was contaminated by N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA). NDMA is classified as a probable carcinogen by the World Health Organization, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Food and Drug Administration.

Exposure to NDMA has been linked to various health conditions, including:

  • Liver cancer
  • Testicular cancer
  • Liver disease

Once it was discovered that Zantac had increased levels of NDMA, the FDA quickly issued a recall for the medication and various other forms of Ranitidine.

However, many people continued using the product for several years without realizing the potential risks. As a result, numerous people are now suffering severe health consequences due to the manufacturer of Zantac, Sanofi, spending years assuring patients that the medication was safe for use.

Dangers of Zantac

In 2019, several investigations were conducted by Valisure surrounding Zantac and Ranitidine. These studies found that there was evidence that the medications were contaminated by NDMA. Even under normal conditions, the levels of NDMA in the drugs continued to rise.

Once the discovery was made, the manufacturer and the FDA issued a voluntary recall of the product. However, many retailers took the product off their shelves for good. Evidence continued to mount in support of the risks of cancer associated with the use of Zantac. As a result, the FDA issued a complete recall of the product in April 2020. Not only did the NDMA levels in Zantac increase the longer it sat in storage under regular conditions, but the exposure to increased temperatures created a rapid increase in contamination.
